India Post announces recruitment for 23,757 Gramin Dak Sevak posts
India Post has announced a major recruitment drive for 23,757 Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) posts including Branch Postmaster, Assistant Branch Postmaster and GDS positions. The application window opened on September 2, 2026 and closes on September 21, 2026. This is one of the largest recruitment opportunities for candidates with Class 10 qualification. Applications are to be submitted through indiapostgdsonline.gov.in.
8th Pay Commission consultations ongoing; visited Puducherry on September 9, 2026
The 8th Pay Commission, headed by Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, is conducting state-wise consultations with employee unions. The Commission visited Puducherry on September 9, 2026 and is scheduled to visit Chandigarh on September 16-18. The Commission was formally constituted on November 3, 2025 with January 1, 2026 as the reference date and is expected to submit recommendations within 18 months. The fitment factor and pay matrix are yet to be finalized.
4% DA Hike expected for Central Government Employees in September 2026
Central government employees and pensioners are likely to receive a 4% Dearness Allowance hike for July 2026, which may be announced in September. The hike would increase DA from 60% to 64% of basic pay, benefiting approximately 55 lakh central government employees and 69 lakh pensioners. The All India Consumer Price Index (AICPI-IW) for July 2026 rose by 1.3 points to 153.2 from 151.9 in June, supporting the increase.
DA at 60% from January 2026; Next Hike Expected in September
The Union Cabinet approved a 2% increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) effective from January 1, 2026, raising the rate from 58% to 60% of Basic Pay/Pension. Central government employees may receive another DA hike to 63% in September 2026, pending official announcement. This is separate from the 8th Pay Commission's work.
