KCET eligibility

Verified against the official notification. Source ↗ · last reconciled 2026-05.

Education
Class 12 with PCM (engineering) or PCB (medical / agri streams). 45% aggregate in PCM (40% for SC/ST/Cat I).
  • Engineering applicants need PCM + at least one of: Biology / Computer Science / Electronics.
  • Class 12 must be from a Karnataka-recognised board OR a board recognised by CBSE/ICSE — outside-Karnataka candidates need a Karnataka-domicile certificate.
Attempts
No formal attempt limit.
Nationality
Indian citizen.
Other
  • Karnataka domicile (10-year clause) required for the state's Article 371-J Hyderabad-Karnataka reservation and certain state-quota seats.
  • Class 12 marks contribute 50% to the final composite rank (the other 50% being KCET score) — Class 12 performance still matters.

Takeaways for prep planning

  • KCET is easier than JEE Main but rewards careful question-reading — typos and ambiguous options have historically caused complaints.
  • Karnataka 2nd PUC textbooks cover ~98% of the paper. NCERT alone is INSUFFICIENT for KCET — use the PUC textbooks.
  • Composite ranking with 50% Class-12 weightage means consistent Class 12 board prep + KCET-specific practice are both required.
