  • Deficiency: Vitamin A
  • Disease: Night blindness
  • Food sources: Carrot, papaya, green leafy vegetables, milk, fish liver oil

Common Mistakes

  • **Confusing energy-giving and body-building foods** → Carbohydrates and fats give energy; proteins build the body. Remember: "Rice gives race (energy), Dal builds muscles."
  • **Thinking all vitamins do the same thing** → Each vitamin has a specific function and deficiency disease. Memorise the vitamin-disease pairs (A–Night blindness, B1–Beriberi, C–Scurvy, D–Rickets).
  • **Ignoring water as a nutrient** → Water is essential for digestion, transport, and temperature regulation. It is a nutrient even though it provides no calories.
  • **Believing preservation only means refrigeration** → Traditional methods like drying, salting, and pickling are equally valid and commonly tested, especially in Jharkhand's tribal context.
  • **Mixing up Kwashiorkor and Marasmus** → Both are protein-energy malnutrition. Kwashiorkor shows swollen belly (some carbohydrates but no protein); Marasmus shows extreme thinness (deficiency of both).
