What they actually do
PCS officers (UP PCS, MPPSC, BPSC, TNPSC etc.) run state-level + district administration similar to IAS but at state cadre. Promotional ceiling is typically Divisional Commissioner / Principal Secretary level.

Bachelor's → State PSC → PCS
Each state has its own commission and exam pattern. UP PCS, BPSC, TNPSC, KPSC, MPPSC, RPSC etc.

- Bachelor's degree
- Age 21-40 (state-specific)
- Domicile of the state (some states only)
Skills that matter
- State-specific GS (history, geography, polity, current affairs)
- Regional language fluency (Hindi for UP/MP/BR/RJ etc.)
- Same admin skill base as IAS
